Pumpkin seed for hair. Read the number, not the front of the pack.

One trial. One dose: 400 mg a day. Here is what that means, what each product prints, and what a day of it costs.

What most pumpkin seed products actually give you

We read the back of ten products that mention pumpkin seed or saw palmetto. Here is what the labels print against the 400 mg trial dose.

Most full hair formulas
Not printed
pumpkin seed amount per day

Of the seven full hair formulas we read, five print no pumpkin seed amount at all and one prints 25 mg. Only one prints the trial number, and it is ours.

A quarter of the trial dose, sold under a "3,000 mg equivalent" on the front. The printed extract amount is what you are actually taking.

The highest pumpkin seed amount of any full formula we have read, the saw palmetto line at the two year study dose, and every one of the other 20 amounts on the pack. £1.60 a day on plan. Single-ingredient capsules cost less per day; the folded table below shows every price.

Amounts do not indicate how well a product works. Neither botanical carries an authorised health claim in Great Britain. Labels and prices read 20 Sep 2026; Dense price read live. Every product and figure, with source, is in the table further down.

Oil and extract are not the same thing

The one placebo controlled trial gave 76 men 400 mg a day of pumpkin seed oil for 24 weeks. Daily Densify prints 400 mg of pumpkin seed extract.

Same number, different form. No trial has tested the extract on its own, so we print the amount for you to compare and we do not borrow the trial's result. Any label that does is claiming more than the evidence allows.

Read the trial, study by study
A proprietary blend label beside a fully disclosed label

A long list means nothing if the amounts are hidden

"Proprietary blend 1,200 mg" tells you nothing about how much pumpkin seed is inside.

Look for the amount per daily serving, printed next to the ingredient. If it is missing, count it as zero when you compare. Every line on the Daily Densify label carries its amount, including the two botanicals.

A pile of twenty separate supplement bottles

One serving, or a shelf of bottles

Twenty-two printed lines in one a day, or the same lines bought one bottle at a time.

Pumpkin seed on its own is one bottle. Add saw palmetto, that is two. Add the vitamins and minerals that hold an authorised hair claim and you are at a shelf. Daily Densify prints all of them in one serving, with every amount on the pack. Every product we have read, 102 of them, is priced per day on our labels compared index.

What to look for on any label

The amount per daily serving, printed next to the ingredient. If it is missing, the front of the pack is telling you a story the back does not back up.

Not sure the botanicals matter to you? Start with the nutrients that hold an authorised hair claim in Great Britain: biotin, zinc and selenium contribute to the maintenance of normal hair. They are on the science page with their doses.

Questions

Is pumpkin seed oil or extract better for hair?

Only the oil has a placebo controlled trial, at 400 mg a day for 24 weeks in men. No trial tested the extract on its own. Compare the printed amount and the price.

How much pumpkin seed was used in the trial?

400 mg a day, as two 100 mg capsules before breakfast and dinner, for 24 weeks, in 76 men. That is a study dose, not a recommendation. Follow the serving printed on any label you buy.

Do pumpkin seed and saw palmetto work better together?

No trial in our sources tested the two together for hair or compared them. Pairing them is a formulation choice, not a tested combination.

Has pumpkin seed been studied in women?

One three month trial randomised women to pumpkin seed oil or an active comparator, 30 in each group, with no placebo arm, so it cannot show how much the oil did. Speak to a pharmacist or GP before starting any supplement if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking medication.

Food supplements should not be used as a substitute for a varied diet and a healthy lifestyle. Do not exceed the serving printed on any product's label. Labels read 20 Sep 2026, re-read quarterly; prices re-read on a cycle and hidden past 60 days; the owner is Jamie at Dense. If a figure does not match your current label, write to hello@dense.global with a photograph of the pack and we correct or remove it within two working days. Trials: pumpkin seed, saw palmetto. Claims rules: science page.
